چکیده
Abstract Water use limitations offers new opportunities for utilization of low-input native grasses and groundcovers the landscapes southwest USA. Two field studies were conducted with eleven plant species two years in Scottsdale Sun City West, AZ to evaluate rate emergence, ground surface coverage, height, overall quality. In laboratory, Eragrostis tef at 86% intermedia 85% showing higher percentage germination compared other species. Within eight weeks, ten exhibited an average 81% emergence while nine showed only 58% West. Sporobolus cryptandrus grew greater than 76 cm (30 in) height kurapia (Lippia nodiflora) about 5 (2 in). The performances groundcover tested demonstrated excellent potential low desert U.S., rates water use, applying fertilizer planting, less frequent mowing requirements. Lippia nodiflora, airoides, Bouteloua gracilis, intermedia, Muhlenbergia asperifolia remained green throughout year when mowed twice a year. Hilaria rigida, gracilis highest coverage uniformity growth. متن کاملTurf wars: experimental tests for alternative stable states in a two-phase coastal ecosystem.
Alternative stable states have long been thought to exist in natural communities, but direct evidence for their presence and for the environmental switches that cause them has been scarce. Using a combination of greenhouse and field experiments, we investigated the environmental drivers associated with two distinctive herbaceous communities in coastal ecosystems in New Zealand. In a mosaic unre...
